Packaging Parcel

What is the best packaging for Parcel Delivery?—5 ways to keep your package out of the “Undeliverable Bin”

If you’re sending a package via parcel delivery, the rules are extremely different from those you’ll find when sending materials via parcel post. And if you want your package to make its destination on time—or at all—you have to follow the rules to a T. To keep your package en route, follow these five simple steps:

  • Use the correct packaging for your item—seal your package with 48mm or 50mm wide sealing tape and double pack heavy items. Never use damaged or non-standard packaging materials—they won’t work.
  • Don’t send dangerous or prohibited goods—the rules vary from company to company, but as a rule of thumb you shouldn’t send drugs, people, explosives, etc. If you think it could get you into legal trouble, it will, and you shouldn’t put it in the box.
  • Use special care with fragile items—never allow fragile items to move around freely or bump into each other inside your box. Make sure to wrap each item individually and stuff enough extra protective packaging inside the box to keep things from sliding around. Your package will be tossed and turned every which way—if your goods aren’t protected, they’ll feel every movement.
  • Always put the correct and full address on the packaging—if you don’t list all of the necessary information, your package will be undeliverable. Chances are, neither you nor the recipient will ever see it.
  • Fill out the necessary documentation—If you don’t accurately complete your paperwork and declarations, your package will be delayed, maybe indefinitely.

Remember, it only takes one slip up to get your package booted off the delivery route. Following the simple steps above can eliminate frustration and delay.
