Little Known Facts About the Messengers We Trust

When choosing a courier over a parcel delivery service, you think more about how trustworthy they are and how available they are then you do about the industry’s track record. But a quick look back into the origins and history of courier services may provide a clearer picture of their continued success over centuries of time.

In ancient times, even before the Romans, or the Mayans, messengers existed. And although they didn’t have bikes or planes, some of them did have wings. Ancient peoples like the Maya and the Romans used homing pigeons to deliver a great deal of their most important messages over long distances, especially during times of war or need. For shorter distances, the fastest runners in the cities often acted as messengers, carrying documents and notes from royalty to teachers, etc.

Once the horse was domesticated, it became a strong asset to the messenger service and was used to travel great distances—the horse began to phase out the homing pigeon and eventually, very few persons used homing pigeons as messengers.

Later on, even the horse was phased out as the industrial revolution brought about railways that were followed by a string of inventions that created faster bikes, motorbikes and eventually, automobiles.

Airplanes became especially important in the late 1940s and early 1950s because of their ability to carry the messenger and the message safely to and from the destination.

Most other delivery systems trace their routes back to the early days of the messenger service.

No other delivery system can lay claim to the history of successes the messenger service industry has held onto for centuries past and no other delivery system will continue to be as successful in centuries to come.
