Keeping Your Package En Route and On Time
If you’re sending a package via parcel post, you have to adhere to rules not only set up by the business end of delivery but also by the government end. While some small mistakes may slip by, most mistakes made in packaging can permanently delay your products from reaching their destination. These five tips may help you avoid unnecessary delays and other issues when shipping your products regionally or world wide.
- Size—Parcels delivered via the post office parcel delivery system cannot exceed 130 inches combined in width and height.
- Weight—When you are sending your package through the post office make sure that it adheres to the 70 lb limit. In fact, it is best to limit yourself to less than 70 lbs, since shifting and settling in packaging may result in weight gain through density.
- Packaging—Don’t use boxes with heavy marking on them, like cereal or other product boxes. Also, never use a box that is weak, like a shoe box, or has in any other way been comprised. Use 48mm or 50mm standard packing tape to secure your box and double pack your boxes if they are heavy. Also be sure to use packaging materials like peanuts, bubble wrap and newspaper to protect your products.
- Accurate Information—Providing accurate and complete information keeps your package on the right course to its destination. Inaccurate information can make your package undeliverable. Always include the recipient’s phone number and your return address.
- No Prohibited Items—Don’t send people, chemicals, animals or explosives. It’s against the law. Your post office will have complete details.
Remember, when shipping items, follow the guidelines or you could end up in jail, with no package.
